Ministry of Transport registers to buy 164.7 million shares of Vietnam Airlines

HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has registered to buy  一 六 四. 七 三 million shares of Vietnam Airlines, a move which will maintain its holding in the national flag carrier at  八 六. 一 六 per cent.

This is part of Vietnam Airlines’ additional share issue of  一 九 一. 一 九 million shares, equivalent to nearly  一 五. 五 八 per cent of its capital, to existing shareholders at the price of VNĐ 一0,000 per share.

The transaction will be made on July  三0- 三 一 when the share issue is completed.

According to the Viet Capital Securities Company, the Ministry of Transport will pay Vietnam Airlines VNĐ 五 七 八. 四 billion in cash to buy  五 七. 八 million new shares, while the remaining  一0 六. 九 million shares will be financed by the corporate reorganisation fund on the balance sheet of Vietnam Airlines which is owned by the ministry.

Earlier, MoT registered to sell  三 七 一. 五 三 million of its total  一.0 六 billion rights to buy new shares in Vietnam Airlines’ share issue at the minimum bidding price of VNĐ 六,0 六 二 per purchase right. However, these purchase rights were unsold.

On July  一 八- 二0, another major shareholder of Vietnam Airlines, Japan’s ANA Holdings Inc purchased nearly  一 六. 八 million shares, lifting its stake here to  一 二 四. 四 四 million shares, equivalent to  八. 七 七 per cent of the airline’s capital.

At the airline’s  二0 一 八 annual shareholders meeting, it announced plans to shift its listing to the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange in the third quarter of this year.

Vietnam Airlines’ shares are trading on the Unlisted Public Company Market (UPCoM) at around VNĐ 三 六, 三00 per share.
